Welcome to your new/updated notebook running Windows 10!

Profile

Windows 10 has a new profile version, meaning some settings may not come across from your previous Windows 7 environment. Most application settings will come across, but if you've customized your windows desktop background or set Windows preferences, you may need to set those again.

Your first Windows 10 logon (whether it is on this device or another device) will take extra time to set up your new profile.

Off Campus Setup

Unlike in previous years, you no longer need to log in at the school once before being able to take your device home. You can log in for the first time anywhere you have a wifi connection that doesn't require a splash login (at home is fine, but at a cafe typically isn't). After logging in for the first time, your device will synchronize a copy of your H: drive, which could take several hours depending on how much data is stored there.

You can still follow the old procedure of logging in once at the school and allowing your H: drive to synchronize here. Allow at least 1 hour per 10 GB of files stored in your H: drive for the initial sync to complete.

Off Campus Roaming

Ensure that you shut down your machine before moving it. Closing the lid will shut the device down.

If you choose to use your device at home or anywhere there is wifi access without a splash page, connect to wifi at the login screen before signing in and you will be able to use your device as if it is at school. This includes full access to your H: drive, share drives (like departmentaldocs and bigfiles), and internal-only websites.

Using your device offline is also supported, and will work like Windows 7 devices did. The login will take longer than normal, and you will receive a message stating that you are using a temporary profile. You should have access to your H: drive (as long as it has had the opportunity to sync), but no other drives or internal resources.
