Adobe Lightroom is now available for installation on non-lab computers. In our networked environment, Adobe Lightroom is a bit tricky to set up, so please follow these instructions carefully.

Prerequisite: Set up Google Drive

  • Click Start -> All Programs -> Google Drive and sign in with your SMUS username and password
  • Allow Google Drive to sync to your local computer

Prerequisite: Install Adobe Lightroom

  • Click Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft System Center -> Software Center
  • Under "Available Software" highlight "Adobe Lightroom CC 2015 6.3 64-bit"
  • In the bottom right, click the Install button

Set up Adobe Lightroom

  • Click Start -> All Programs, then hold CTRL and click Adobe Lightroom
  • In the "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog" window, click "Create a New Catalog"
  • In the file selection dialog, on the left side, click Google Drive
  • At the top, click the "New Folder" button and call it Lightroom
  • Double click into your new Lightroom folder
  • Under file name, enter "lightroom.lrcat" (without quotes) and click the Create button

Caveats

  • If you choose to use Adobe Lightroom on multiple PCs, ensure Google Drive synchronizes completely after you close Lightroom and before you log out. Otherwise your could end up losing your recent work or suffering database corruption.
  • If we have to reload your computer, you will need to set up Google Drive sync again before your catalog will be present. Do this before attempting to start Lightroom for the first time.
